21st March:

Lewis: A Chiffchaff was in South Dell. The Green-winged Teal was on Loch Stiapabbat.

South Uist: The drake American Wigeon was at the south end of Loch Hallan. 5 Avocets were at the south-west corner of Loch Bee. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Ardivachar. A Chiffchaff was in South Glendale.

20th March:

Lewis: The juvenile Iceland Gull was in Stornoway harbour. A Swallow was at Port of Ness.

South Uist: The drake Ring-necked Duck was on Loch Ardvule. 2 Avocets were in the south-west corner of Loch Bee. The drake American Wigeon is still at Loch Hallan and 2 Wheatears were seen at Hallan Cemetery.

Marine Sightings: 2 White-beaked Dolphins were off Port of Ness this afternoon.

 

19th March:

South Uist: An American Wigeon is on Loch Hallan. 2 Scaup were on Loch Bornish.

18th March:

Lewis: A Sooty Shearwater was seen off Port of Ness this morning.

Barra: A Green-winged Teal was at Ardmhor.

 

17th March:

Lewis: The Snow Bunting was still at the Butt.

South Uist: 4 Avocets were in the south-west corner of Loch Bee early afternoon.

Marine Sightings: 3 Humpback Whales were seen from the Butt this morning and a total of 9 were seen passing Port of Ness during the day.

 

16th March:

Lewis: A Lapland Bunting flew over the Butt and a Snow Bunting was in the lighthouse compound, 13:15. The Green-winged Teal was on Loch Stiapabhat.

South Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal was on the Howmore River.

Barra: A Siberian Chiffchaff was at Brevig (for 2nd day). 8 Snow Buntings were at Eoligarry.

Marine Sightings: 9 Orcas were off Port of Ness late morning before heading west past the Butt, 13:30.

 

15th March:

Lewis: A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Skigersta.

Benbecula: 22 Fieldfare were at Muir of Aird.

South Uist: The drake Surf Scoter was off Rubha Thormais. 5 Black-tailed Godwits were at the north-west end of Loch Bee and another 4 were at Loch an't-Saile. The Green-winged Teal was on the Howmore River. The Ring-necked Duck was at Loch Ardvule before relocating to Loch Bornish. 26 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Ardvule. 150 Whooper Swans were between Bornish and West Loch Ollay.

Marine Sightings: 2 Orcas and a White-beaked Dolphin were off Port of Ness. 5 Orcas and 10 Risso's Dolphins were off the Butt. A Minke Whale was off Skigersta.

Insects: 10 Belted Beauties (3 males) were along the fence line on Bornish machair.

14th March:

Lewis: The juvenile Iceland Gull was in Stornoway harbour. A juvenile Iceland Gull flew south-east past Port of Ness.

North Uist: 20 Whooper Swans were on Loch Scolpaig.

South Uist: A Lapland Bunting was on the moorland, north-east of Askernish. A drake Ring-necked Duck was at Loch Ardvule; also 7 Black-tailed Godwits there. 150 Whooper Swans were on Bornish machair.

Marine Sightings: 2 Humpback Whales were off Tiumpan Head.

Insects: A male Belted Beauty was seen at Port Scolpaig, Balranald.

13th March:

Lewis: The juvenile Iceland Gull was in Stornoway harbour.

North Uist: 23 Whooper Swans dropped in at Borve, Berneray this morning. 15 Common Scoters were off the west side of Berneray.

South Uist: 8 Scaup were on east Loch Bee.

Marine Sightings: 3 Humpback Whales were seen distantly off Tiumpan Head today; also White-beaked Dolphin off there.

12th March:

Lewis: The juvenile Iceland Gull was in Stornoway harbour. The drake Ring-necked Duck was on Loch Tiumpan.

North Uist: A Wheatear was on the north side of Grimsay.

South Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal was on the Howmore River. The drake Ring-necked Duck was on West Loch Ollay. 6 Scaup were on east Loch Bee.

Marine Sightings: 3 Orcas were seen heading north off the east side of Barra just after 5 pm.

11th March:

Lewis: An Iceland Gull was in Stornoway harbour.

South Uist: A drake Ring-necked Duck was on West Loch Ollay; also 80+ Whooper Swans there. 120 Whooper Swans were at Bornish; also 6 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Bornish. The drake Green-winged Teal was on the Howmore River. The female Lesser Scaup and an Avocet were at the south-west end of Loch Bee. 8 Scaup were on east Loch Bee. 4 Black-tailed Godwits were at the north-west end of Loch Bee.

10th March:

Lewis: The drake Green-winged Teal was on Loch Stiapabhat. A juvenile Kumlien's Gull was reported from Stornoway harbour.

North Uist: 30 Whooper Swans flew north-west over Carinish early afternoon.

South Uist: 8 Pink-footed Geese and 43 Whooper Swans were at West Loch Ollay.

 

9th March:

Lewis: The drake Green-winged Teal was on Loch Stiapabhat. A juvenile Iceland Gull was in Stornoway harbour.

Haris: 25 Whooper Swans were at Amhuinnsuidhe.

North Uist: 38 Whooper Swans landed on the North Ford off Carinish this morning. The Green-winged Teal is still on LOch Sandary.

Insects: A Pale Brindled Beauty and 2 Yellow Horned were trapped at North Loch Eynort last night. 3 Dotted Border, 3 Hebrew Character,  1 Agonopterix yeatiana and an Emmelina monodactyla were at South Glendale.

8th March:

Lewis: A Carrion Crow was at Loch Stiapabhat. A Sooty Shearwater flew north-west at the Butt (13:00). The drake Ring-necked Duck is still on Loch Barvas. The drake Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch Tiumpan.

North Uist: 62 Whooper Swans flew north over Claddach Kirkibost this afternoon. An adult Glaucous Gull and 114 pale-belied Brent Geese were at Rubh' Arnal.

South Uist: The Green-winged Teal was at West Loch Ollay and a juvenile Iceland Gull was on the machair there.

 

7th March

Lewis: A drake Ring-necked Duck was on Loch Barvas.

North Uist: A Green-winged Teal was on Loch Sandary.

Marine Sightings: 10 White-beaked Dolphins and 5 Risso's Dolphins were seen off Port of Ness this afternoon.

6th March:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck was on Loch Tiumpan.

 

5th March:

South Uist: A Black-tailed Godwit was in North Bay / Mol Mor.

 

2nd March:

Lewis: An adult Iceland Gull was at the Butt and an adult Glaucous Gull nearby at Port Stoth.

Benbecula: The hybrid Mallard x Black Duck was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Ardivachar.

Insects: A Dotted Border was trapped in South Glendale last night and a Pale-brindled Beauty at North Loch Eynort.

1st March:

South Uist: The female Lesser Scaup was at the south-west end of Loch Bee. A Green-winged Teal was on the Howmore River. A Green-winged Teal was also on West Loch Ollay.
